Village House For Two between Brive and Sarlat in the Dordogne
Village House For Two between Brive and Sarlat in the Dordogne
One bedroom, sleeps 2 people. The ancient village of Salignac with its 12th century château sits in rolling countryside between the towns of Brive and Sarlat in the Dordogne. The village bustles along in much the same as it has done for centuries, surviving on the local economy, which is based mainly on agriculture, in particular the production of foie gras, walnuts and goats cheese.
The Little House is situated in a lane in the medieval quarter of the town, amongst houses built of mellow stone, small walled gardens and lanes built for horse and cart. All shops, including a baker, butcher, general grocer, bank, bar and restaurants, are all within one or two minutes easy walk.
The house has been restored to a high standard and every effort made to provide the comforts of modern life (including satellite television) whilst retaining the old features of the property. The accommodation has been purposely designed for two people and consists of an entrance hall, a large bedroom with a double bed, a dressing room and an ensuite shower room.
An oak staircase gives access to the first floor and the main living room and kitchen, which in turn leads to the first floor terrace with its fine views over the medieval area, château and countryside. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, full cooker, and microwave, refrigerator and enough of ‘everything’ for four people. Furniture on the terrace is for four people – barbecue included.
The lake (about 10 minutes from The Little House) is a little piece of heaven on earth, situated at the end of the wooded valley, it is privately owned and is about one and a half acres in size. No roads, electricity poles, or any other sign of civilisation can be seen, only birds, butterflies and wild flowers. It is approached by a hidden road through the woods – in times of rain, it is best to walk, so it is a good idea to bring your wellingtons.
The lake is well stocked with roach, rudd, tench and carp, best baits are maggots, a little ground bait and boilies or luncheon meat for the carp. Further fishing can be obtained in the rivers Vezère or Dordogne and the big lake near Brive, Lac du Causse, famous for its big carp.
An ideal place to spend the day, it is safe to swim in the lake and picnic (picnic equipment supplied in The Little House) in the shade of one of the trees.
